The best thing I can tell you about Ratby is that most people who sell a house in Ratby buy another one in the village. This is the best advertisement for life within Ratby anyone can give. The village has a population of around 4,000 and is well served by a primary school, shops including the post office, an award-winning fish & chip shop and a village hall. It also has a sports club offering football, cricket and many other activities; it is where England International Emile Heskey began his football career.

A popular area in the village is the National Forest area known as The Burroughs. This runs for several miles towards Botcheston and alongside the Forest Hill Golf Course and is very popular with ramblers and dog walkers.

Ratby is also well know for its brass band which has its own headquarters on Taverner Drive. Local builder of high repute John Cawrey is a major contributor to the village community.
