The thing I like about Glenfield is the fact that you are never more than five to 10 minutes away from either Leicester city centre, the M1 motorway, open countryside or excellent shopping facilities at either Fosse Park or the Beaumont Shopping Centre.
I would add to this the history of Glenfield (railway) Tunnel, the presence of major employers such as Leicestershire County Council at County Hall and Glenfield Hospital, a regular public transport service and two excellent, well regarded schools – Glenfield Primary and The Hall County Primary.
The population is more than 10,000 yet Glenfield retains its village status. It has its own newspaper, The Glenfield Gazette, a Co-Op Superstore, a library, a health centre and a range of shops, some of which are of many years standing.
There are open green areas, recreational facilities on Ellis Park, Gynsill Lane Playing Fields and the Millennium Green near The Brantings. There is also an area promoting biodiversity and nature conservation in The Gynsill’s Nature Area. There are lots of walkways throughout the village making it popular with families and dog walkers.
